About Dave
Hi! My name is Dave Holbrook and I am your personal trainer! Since I’m going to be your trainer, let me tell you a little about myself. My degrees and certifications include a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education/Sport’s Medicine, and I am certified as a Personal/Group Trainer through the prestigious and internationally recognized Cooper Institute of Dallas, TX – the gold standard in personal training schools. Ever since I got involved in Pop Warner recreational football at age 11, I have followed a fitness and nutrition oriented life. After reading everything I could get my hands on that was related to exercise, fitness, nutrition, getting stronger, etc., I amassed quite a wealth of information. I exercised and trained like a madman. I spent years experimenting, verifying, modifying, fine-tuning and dismissing innumerable training techniques through trial and error. I tested them on myself and friends to see what worked and didn’t work. I began creating training routines for friends, relatives and co-workers and continued to do so informally for nearly 30 years. Then, to make it official, I traveled to Dallas and trained at the best school available to get my accreditation.
I was the Fitness Instructor for the Harford County Sheriff’s Office the last 8 years I worked there. I retired in 2009. During my lifelong interest in fitness, nutrition and bodybuilding, I have accumulated numerous awards winning a number of bodybuilding competitions (state and regional) and placing high in others. I represented the State of Maryland in national competition. I was even given my own weight training class in High School while still a student when the Phys. Ed teachers saw my abilities! During my career with the Sheriff’s Dept. I was recognized as the fittest deputy in the Detention Center (at age 48 and out of 140 deputies). I won an award for being Harford County Government’s fittest employee. While at the Cooper Institute, I tested at the 99th percentile for nearly every fitness category for my age group and outperformed the majority of the entire class (comprised of mostly 20 something years old athletes). I can compete with and outperform most of today’s young trainers and I have more years of actual training experience than they have years of life. Most importantly, I understand the effects of aging because I experience the same things!
I know that training programs are not created equal and even the ones that DO usually work, don’t work for everyone. I understand aching joints, bad backs and how getting older affects people. I know how to change, modify and improve a program in mid-stream when it’s not working. My students know they’re gonna work… HARD, but they know the results I produce are worth it! Whatever your goals, I can help you get there quicker and more safely. Safety is my number one priority and I will push you to your limits, but I won’t take chances with your safety. I have never had a student get injured from my training – sore YES, but not injured! Your results are what I take seriously, and I accept nothing less than you making the changes you want.
I have trained people of all ages and fitness levels, both male and female and have never trained anyone who did not make excellent gains while avoiding overtraining and injury. Among these were a couple Olympic hopefuls wanting to increase strength. The most recent one increased her leg strength by 400% in a few months!

Types of Training
** A physical exam by your doctor is recommended – especially if any significant physical problems exist. Your safety is my number one priority, and a Doctor’s note may be required.**
***Note: All training is conducted at Dave’s home gym in Forest Hill, Maryland***
Dave’s Hours: Monday through Friday 8 AM-7 PM. The hours of 7 AM-8 AM and 7 PM-8 PM are available on a first come/first served basis at an additional fee per session charge.
Personal Training
You meet with Dave and complete a medical and health history. We discuss your goals and objectives, and a physical assessment is performed to determine where you are physically. Once that has been established, Dave will design programs tailored specifically to your needs and abilities to take you safely and successfully towards your goal. Training will be conducted in my home gym/personal training studio which is located at my residence.

Buddy Training
Primarily the same as personal training, except you train with a friend – or friends – whose needs and abilities are fairly similar to yours. It’s fun and challenging with friendly competition and laughter often taking place amid the groaning! In addition to this, you’ll save $$. Train with a friend and each of you can knock a portion of the regular fee per session off the price for personal training. Add another person and save additional $$ per person. Limit 3.

Group Training
Group training is conducted when a number of people are working towards a common goal. Dave will design a training program targeting the goals and needs of the group and conduct training sessions as determined by class needs and abilities. A minimum of 10 participants is required along with an indoor facility to train in during inclement weather.

Consultation
All clients, whether beginning to train or needing to improve your own training, meet with Dave so you will get the most out of your training methods and routine. The initial meeting for potential clients inquiring about training is FREE!
If training is pursued, the following takes place. After completing a medical and health screening, you and Dave will thoroughly review your current exercise program (if there is one) to determine what can be modified to help you get the absolute maximum from your time in the gym.
Nutritional counseling normally is a big part of this consultation time. When you consider the time and effort you are expending in the gym, it makes sense to make your workouts as effective and productive as possible. Take it from a trainer who has been there, and use my experience and proven methods to reach your goals faster and safer.
Other trainers have come to me for counseling to help them improve their training methods. I have earned a reputation as the one with the most knowledge. If you’re new to training especially, allow at least 2 hours for this necessary consultation.

When a training package is paid for at the consultation, the assessment, nutritional counseling and other information is also covered and counts as session #1 – regardless of time. Allow a minimum of 2 hours for the consultation.
Nutrition Guidance
Included with all training services. Dave is certified as a personal/group trainer and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. In college he minored in nutrition and stays abreast of all the latest research, developments and information available in the nutrition field. Dave also knows what has stood the test of time and possesses a wealth of information which is vitally important to any goal you are striving to reach. This info is included for no additional charge to members of any of the services offered. Advice for non-members can be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
