Every year it’s the same. People make their annual New Year’s resolution to exercise and lose weight. Some of them even buy gym memberships. The gyms will be crowded for the first few weeks of January. By February, it will all be back to normal . . . and the resolutions will be put back into mothballs until the next New Year. I will start getting more and more phone and email contacts when the first warm days start appearing in late March, April and May. I’m usually fairly booked up by the end of May, and it gets harder to get the time slots you wanted . . . and by then you should already be in shape and beach ready. You can be ready in time.
NOW is the time to be proactive about obtaining the shape you desire. Don’t wait until a week before your trip “down the ocean” to ask me to whip you into shape by then. It took time to lose your shape, and it will take time to reach your objective — longer if you’re reaching for new heights.
The average American gains 1-2 pounds every Christmas season (not so long ago that figure was closer to 6 lbs, so maybe we’re getting better). The trouble is, that number is the AVERAGE, meaning some people gained more than that. Most people gain and never take it off. That’s why we’re known as “fat Americans.” I’m on a one man mission to make sure my clients are not counted in that crowd. I can help you too.
To lose weight and get in shape requires effort. Joining a gym won’t do it (my gym costs you nothing). You must make a commitment and stick with it NO MATTER WHAT! If you allow every temptation to miss workouts win out, your progress towards your goal will suffer. If you cannot control your eating habits, or if you eat the wrong things, the wrong amounts or even at the wrong times — you won’t make progress as quickly as you can.
The experts recommend that women should focus on trying to lose a pound a week; men- 2 lbs. I don’t have a problem with going higher than that – especially in the early stages or if your starting weight is heavier. However, losing too much weight too quickly can be detrimental since you will likely be losing muscle and water weight along with the fat — and you don’t want to lose muscle. Tightening and shaping muscle is better than replacing it, and you won’t lose the caloric consumption that you will if the muscle is gone. That’s why you need to start now.
You need a plan.
