When to Hire a Personal Trainer

Last updated on March 14, 2023 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

value of a personal fitness trainer

When I first started training people professionally (many years ago), I figured the best time to find clients would be just before Christmas and the New Year for those buying Christmas gifts or making New Year’s resolutions.

I was WRONG on both counts!

People buy gym memberships for both of those times. When they discover that they’re not making any progress (and often not going to the gym) … and swimwear season is creeping closer … then my phone rings and my inbox gets more than junk mail. I was told in Personal training school that summers were the worst time to get clients, but it’s been just the opposite for me. Beginning with the first few warmer days in March, then my business quickly fills time slots.

WHY Do People Come to Me?

I’ll list 4 reasons right off the top of my head.

Accountability

Accountability might be the first reason for many clients. When you make your appointments and you’re paying a trainer for a time slot, you’re pretty likely to be there – unless you like to throw money away! (I haven’t had any of those clients yet). You also KNOW I’m gonna be asking you about your diet, because it’s going to be a key part of making the training work. Put the wrong fuel in a high-performance race car, and you won’t get the results you desire. You’re less likely to screw up your diet when I’m gonna nag you about it! I will also PUSH you like you won’t push yourself. It’s easy to go easy on yourself or skip training altogether when there’s no accountability.

Knowledge

Probably coming in 2nd is KNOWLEDGE of what exercises should be done and how you should perform them – including rep scheme, sets, what order, etc. I have had clients who told me that they have been exercising for many years – and sometimes have had trainers – who never even knew how to perform the exercises properly. That definitely WON’T be the case with me. I am always amazed when I hear these revelations. If nothing else, you’ll know some exercises to do, and how to do them properly, after training with me even for a short time.

Safety

Another reason is SAFETY. If you don’t know how to do each exercise safely, you can easily injure yourself. Safety is of utmost importance with me and I won’t take chances that could injure you. I am a stickler for doing the exercises in the way that is most effective and safe. I watch every rep on every person I train – even those who have been training with me for years. I am hard to please when it comes to form and will be constantly looking for flaws in your form that I can correct. I will also always be spotting you when the going gets tough so you can push to get that extra rep without taking a chance on hurting yourself. I have an extremely high success rate on injury free training. (I can tell you horror stories about some other trainers that clients have had prior to me).

Innovation

INNOVATION is another factor that my clients like. It’s PERSONAL TRAINING after all, not a one-size-fits-all routine that everyone gets. When you come to me to help you reach YOUR goals, your training program will be based on where you are physically right now, your personal skill set (and potential limitations), safety, and what we’re trying to accomplish in YOUR body. Surely, there’s likely to be some overlap since a number of exercises are staples for particular body areas, but you’ll have the personal attention you need. I have invented quite a few exercises designed exclusively for people trying to achieve unique goals.

This isn’t an all-inclusive list, but no one wants to read a chapter length article either! The time to start getting ready for skimpier clothes is NOW. Effective training is a marathon – not a sprint. Starting now gives you time to get rid of the fat and begin sculpting your body. Last minute attempts are much more difficult and often can’t accomplish as much as you want if time is limited. Contact me now before your time slot fills up!
