Comparison Shopping for WiFi Cameras, Outdoor Edition

With a rich legacy of providing excellent home automation and home security solutions at affordable prices, X10 offers a sizeable collection of WiFi-enabled video cameras suitable for a vast array of applications. We’ll start by looking at some characteristics all X10 cameras have in common and then categorize cameras according to their characteristics.

Airsight Cameras

All X10 cameras are called Airsight cameras, and they’re well known for their user-friendly features, high durability, and IP technology at affordable prices. WiFi connectivity allows for simple setup through free Apple or Android apps and linking to your existing smartphone via QR codes or audio signals (depending on the model camera you choose). Setup and operation requires no technical expertise.

Of course, the WiFi connectivity allows you to view video from your phone wherever you have internet or cell phone connectivity. (Many models also allow for video recording within the device, via an SD card.) Models allowing for pan, tilt, or zoom functions can be controlled and 2-way audio communications can be completed, all from your existing smartphone.

Outdoor Security Cameras

When it comes to security, X10 Airsight cameras are second-to-none in their effectiveness, especially when used in conjunction with the other 4 layers of any X10 home security system. X10 currently offers 3 options, when it comes to outdoor Airsight cameras. All three X10 outdoor cameras come equipped with IR sensors for low-light conditions and stream video at 30fps and connect via 802.11/b/g, the standard for any WiFi communications, and are equipped with Easy Scan QR setup.

The XX52A Airsight Outdoor Wireless Camera (discontinued) includes weather-safe aluminum housing. Its top housing cover is adjustable backward and forward, in order to provide the ideal amount of shade to give you the clearest image possible. The large, weatherproof antenna sends information to your home router and the long, heavy-duty power cable provides enough leeway to allow you to decide the best placement for your XX52A.

Boasting the same weather-proof features as the XX52A, the unique, spherical design of the XX60A Airsight Pan Tilt ZOOM Indoor/Outdoor Camera allows you to see even more, with the potential for panning 355°, tilting 90°, and zooming in x3 with optical zoom.

A third weather-proof model provides the most impressive video resolution. The XX70A Airsight Pan Tilt ZOOM IP WiFi Indoor/Outdoor IP Camera (discontinued) appears similar to the XX60A but allows for tilting to 75° and 4x optical zoom. The XX70A allows you to capture and stream amazingly clear 960p HD video. The ultra-high resolution may make the difference between seeing an intruder or catching details that help the authorities find and return your property.

In addition to the 3 Outdoor/Indoor IP Cameras described above, X10 offers five different Airsight camera models for indoor use. As you would expect, the housing for those models is not waterproof or as heavy-duty, allowing them to be sold for a lower price point. Click here to continue reading about the indoor camera models.
