Pool Party Planning for Beginners

Last updated on March 9, 2021 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

Maybe you love the idea of hosting a pool party, but you’re not the greatest about the details. We’ve already given you a couple ideas when it comes to themes, and now we’re going to get into a little more nitty gritty as far as the how-to part. Because a pool party is by its very nature pretty casual, you’ll be able to sit back and enjoy the time. Most of the work is done ahead of time, and by taking care of a few key details early on, you can ensure that your next party will give you plenty of time to sit back, relax, and spend time with your tribe.

Send Out Invitations Early

Who says you can’t include pool party invites alongside holiday cards? (And who wouldn’t want to get such an invite when it’s dark and cold?) Even if you don’t plan that far in advance, seriously, make sure to let people know at least 2-3 months in advance so they can save the date and plan around it as they schedule any summer getaways.

You can, of course, let people know via text or social media, but the added touch of a paper invite definitely lets them know you’re on top of the details — and gives them an added reason to anticipate your party. You can create your invitations using templates on sites like Vistaprint or simply design and print them on your own. Feel free to send an electronic “Save the Date” card (free and easy to do with apps like PicMonkey and Canva) even before you mail the official invite with more details, giving your guests added reasons to anticipate your big event.

Communicate Details & Build Anticipation

You can create a group on Facebook or whatever social media outlet your people prefer, allowing you to post pictures of decorations, your menu, or contests you’ll be holding. This will help guests to be able to get excited about your event and build up anticipation as the day gets closer. During and after the party, your guests will be able to upload their own photos and share their favorite parts.

Outsource Whatever You Can

Some people think they need to be good at every single thing in order to throw a party — not true! Outsource whatever you need to, in order to make your event as stress-free and successful as possible. If you don’t like designing invites, ask your best friend to do that part or hire a freelancer. Ditto with decorations. Food is a biggie here, and it’s difficult to cook for your own party while you’re also taking care of the other last-minute details. Whether you arrange to pick up eats from a local restaurant, have your party catered, or hire someone to man the grill, you’ll want to plan well in advance in order to make sure you don’t have to worry about cooking.

Once you have invitations taken care of and whatever items off your plate that you need others to do, you’ll be well on your way to anticipating your next pool party!
