One option for many high school seniors is to pursue a degree at a liberal arts college. Liberal arts include: literature, languages, philosophy, history, mathematics, psychology, and science.

In classical antiquity, the liberal arts were skills that many individuals considered essential for a free person and active member of society. The individuals who studied liberal arts were known to be virtuous, knowledgeable, and articulate.

The same principles of the classical antiquity still exist. In modern liberal art colleges, professors lecture on a broad range of arts and humanity subject. They offer a broad range of topics for their students’ education.

Liberal arts schools are typically smaller in size than universities. With usually no more than three- thousand students, they offer more individualized attention to each student with smaller class sizes. Liberal arts colleges encourage a high level of teacher- student interaction. This builds a stronger education and specialized learning for each individualized student.

Teachers and professors of liberal arts colleges typically offer extended office hours. This feature allows students to make an appointment and ask questions about a class or discuss possibilities for the future. During these office hours, students can discuss their future and network with the professor to build connections for jobs and internships. Many students agree that these discussions help them expand their education and analyze new information outside of the classroom.

Students live and learn away from home as liberal arts colleges are often residential. This benefit allows students to experience a wide variety of cultural, political, and intellectual experiences and events.

Liberal arts colleges offer many of the same social aspects of big universities. They still have clubs, concerts, formals, and events happening throughout the semester. Many liberal arts colleges offer Greek life and a wide variety of different organizations. The stereotypical college student is known to behave the same wherever they go.

While a Bachelor degree at a liberal arts school typically takes four years, the first two years of that education are spent with a concentration on general knowledge and exploration. This principle allows students to explore all options before they declare a major.

Graduate schools look to liberal arts students as possible graduate students. Since liberal arts school offer a broad curriculum, many students continue their education in a particular discipline.

Many businesses approach liberal arts colleges for recruitment. Employers look to liberal arts schools for recruitment since they schools are undergraduate focused, provide opportunity for research, and have genuine recommendations from professors knowing the students. Liberal arts students typically carry a great deal of common sense and knowledge of the world around them.
