Compact Swimming Pools 101, Part 4

Last updated on December 10, 2019 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

Maybe you’re sold on the idea of installing a compact pool inside your home or in your yard (see Parts 1, 2 & 3). The only question left in your mind is that of cost. Like with traditional pools, the cost of installing a compact pool varies quite a bit depending on factors such as the actual size of the pool as well as the materials you choose. In this article, we’ll explore some of the different factors that could either lower or raise the price associated with installing a compact pool. We’ll also take a look at what you can expect to pay for maintenance.

How Much Will It Cost to Install a Compact Pool Compared to a Conventional Pool? It Depends

If you choose a small sized compact pool, do much of the work on your own, and go with a lower priced material like cedar, you can expect to see significant savings when compared to a full sized pool. It could be as little as $5,000 at the time of the writing of this article. For a high-end concrete compact pool, however, you can expect to pay as much as $50,000. Copper could cost even more. An average price would be somewhere in the middle, around $25,000. Fiberglass will be more reasonable than concrete and copper, and vinyl liner pools will be less expensive than fiberglass for installation but could end up costing more in maintenance in the long run.

Standard pools can run up to twice as much in cost as compact pools, which makes sense since they tend to be around twice as large in size. Indoor installations can cost more than outside installations, but if you live in a cold climate the extra usage time throughout the year as well as lower maintenance costs may be worth the extra amount you have to pay upfront for opting for the indoor route. You’ll also save yourself the hassle of winterizing your pool if you choose to install it indoors.

How Much Will It Cost to Maintain Your Compact Pool? Once Again, It Depends

As with initial installation, the cost of pool maintenance for your compact pool can vary based on a number of different factors. You will typically see significant savings when compared to the cost of upkeep for a conventional sized pool. That’s simply due to its smaller size requiring less electricity, water, and chemicals. At the time of the writing of this article, typical costs can range from $900 to $1,600 per year for maintenance. These costs can go up if you add extra features or depending on the type of filtration equipment and chemicals you use. This would be a good topic to discuss with your pool installer or an expert from a pool supply retailer.

What is the Downside of a Compact Pool

Most of this article series has focused on the positive aspects of owning a compact pool. There are a few disadvantages to consider, however, before you decide to install one on your property. These disadvantages basically all revolve around a lack of space. A compact pool isn’t suitable for lap swimming, it’s also not big enough for hosting large pool parties, and kids may feel cramped playing in a small sized pool.

Overall, compact pools are a great option for people with limited space or budget constraints. If you have plenty of space for a conventional sized pool, however, it may be worth your while to choose a full-sized pool instead of a compact pool. You can find other ways to save on costs, such as cutting out extra frills or going with a less expensive building material, rather than opting for a tiny pool.

Hopefully, this series has given you a realistic picture of what to expect from a compact pool. Just because they’re small in size, compact pools still have plenty to offer in the way of refreshment and relaxation.
