The holidays are right around the corner, and that means house guests for some of us. The guest room in your home is a great opportunity to explore your style and push your decorating boundaries. Don’t you love the memory of the weekend you spent at that gorgeous B&B? The fresh flowers, the wonderful breakfast… and that bedroom! So, besides providing all the comforts of home for your guests, here are some tips on how to go for that B&B beauty.
BEDDING – The bed should be visually warm and welcoming. For the perfect B&B touch, freshen up the duvet cover and shams with seasonal, traditional prints such as florals and stripes. Don’t be afraid to bring in a bright color (red!) and mix the prints (floral duvet cover and a striped dust ruffle!). SO bed & breakfast!
ARTWORK – Hanging art is a simple and pretty way to introduce color and help define the room. Vintage framed prints of fauna and florals are a welcoming touch, and look nice year round. Arrange a few above the bed, or vertically on a narrow wall which will balance the room nicely. Hang them in odd numbers – a group of three works well – and close enough together so they don’t look disconnected.
MIRRORS – Mirrors are essential. They reflect light and open up the room, as well as being functional, conversation pieces, and works of art. If you have the space, lean a full-length mirror framed in old or reclaimed wood against the wall. Stunning! When placing your mirrors around the room (whether they are hung on the wall or placed on a dresser), keep in mind that what you see in the reflection should look as good as the mirror itself.
NIGHTSTANDS & DECOR – The nightstands don’t have to be identical, but they should coordinate with the room. Placing a small flower arrangement and a reading lamp with a fun shade is a nice touch.
THE BED – Updating to a vintage looking iron bed is a quick Easy Beautiful. Whether you choose an entire bed or simply the headboard, iron beds have an undeniable casual and elegant look. Their wonderful lines are works of art in themselves, and are a true B&B feel.
You can also surprise your guests in the morning by leaving the paper and a new pair of fluffy slippers outside the door. And, a piece of chocolate on the pillow upon their arrival will definitely make them smile. We can go on and on about rugs, dressers, perhaps a cat, and other fun accents, but we just want to get you started. And if you want some help, we are really great at this and would love to pull it together for you.
