Top Two X10 Wireless Controllers

Last updated on April 12, 2016 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

If you’re new to home automation, you need to know that there are two basic components to any automation system: an X10 Receiver and an X10 Controller. (Well, theoretically, you could go with a Receiver or Controller that wasn’t X10, but why would you want to do a thing like that?) When it comes to receivers, you can read about our top 3 lamp modules here. But in today’s post, we’re going to look at some our favorite controllers.

While we offer both wired and wireless controllers, our favorites are the wireless ones, which also require transceivers. Why? It’s 2016, after all. We’ve been using remote controls to change channels for decades, and many of us lock and unlock (and maybe even start) our vehicles remotely.

So why do we still get up to adjust lighting or other appliances throughout our homes? Well, whatever the reason, we don’t have to keep it that way. With X10 products, virtually anything in your home can become automated and controlled by remote controls. No longer futuristic or financially out of reach for most Americans, X10 home automation systems are completely attainable for the average Joe.

The KR19A Keychain Remote

This baby is definitely a customer favorite — and for good reason! The KR19A Keychain Remote has a keychain-friendly size and design similar to your vehicle’s keyless entry remote. It includes 6 buttons, total — two sets of buttons, allowing you to turn two devices (or categories of devices) on, off, or dim. Especially if your home’s electrical wiring and light switches are inconveniently located, this kind of automation can provide you with added safety and convenience as you approach or leave your home.

Since the KR19A is a wireless controller, it requires you to have at least one Wireless Transceiver, such as the TM751 Wireless Transceiver Module, in your home. The KR19A Keychain Remote can be programmed to coordinate with any X10 Receiver, including light switches, Appliance Modules, or Lamp Modules.

The HR12A Hand Remote

The HR12A remote has the amazing capability of controlling 16 unique X10 addresses. Since you can assign multiple devices to each X10 address, you could conceivably control every light, device, and appliance in your home with this single remote control. The HR12A Hand Remote includes dimming functionality, when paired with any of our dimmable X10 modules or switches.

Also referred to as the PalmPad Remote Control, the HR12A utilizes Radio Frequency (or RF), which means you do not need to be in the line of sight in order to operate it. So from a single position in your home, the HR12A allows you to control any device in your home. We recommend you pair it with our TM51 Wireless Transceiver Module, along with your choice of X10 Receivers.
