Okay, we’re not encouraging you to go all out-of-sight-out-of-mind in your parenting, here. There is a time to relinquish helicopter parenting and give your kids a little freedom, but clearly the infant and toddler years aren’t that time. What we are suggesting is that you think outside the baby box and reconsider purchasing a product marketed strictly as a baby monitor and get something even better that has long-term uses beyond the baby years.
But first, we have to ask, “What’s wrong with traditional baby monitors?”
Baby Item Pricing
Have you ever noticed how as soon as certain words get attached to a product, its price seems to skyrocket? For instance, a plain white candle that might otherwise be priced around $5, yet found in the “wedding” section, might be $15 or higher.
The same is true of “baby” items. Certain niche markets seem to prey on enthusiastic but gullible people heading into a new stage of life. Many baby monitors, for all their adorable packaging and expert branding, are quite low tech, especially for their price points (expect to pay at least $100 for a video monitor and over $200 for a decent one).
In addition, like almost any baby item or high-tech gadget, they’re worth much less if you go to sell them used than they are to purchase brand new. And if you decide you’d also benefit from having a nanny cam to keep an eye on your little one when you’re away from home, that’s an extra tech item for your list, something else to plug in, and (probably) something else with quality beneath that of your smartphone and other household digital devices.
Better Options
By contrast, the all-new LI2 Wireless HD IP Stick Camera and LQ2 Wireless HD IP Ball Camera (which comes in both White and Black) are priced below the typical price point of video baby monitors. Both are available for under the $100 price point, too! What’s more, these exceptional cameras can provide a dual use as a nanny cam and have use beyond the baby years, either as a home intercom, safety feature for older children, or even home security.
Since X10 products allow you to use your home Wifi signal and your existing Apple or Android device to stream and record video, X10 is able to offer these cameras at affordable price points, with the benefit of app-based technology and ultra-crisp video through the 1280*720p high definition lenses.
Add in excellent night-vision and motion sensors, and you have a premium security camera that can offer you years of excellent service. Clear speakers and a built-in microphone also allow you to conduct 2-way audio communications anywhere you have internet or cellular service.
