There is a Laundromat located to the rear of my husband’s business. It, along with the car wash which is attached to my husband’s place of work, has been burglarized several times within the last few months. One of the village vandals keeps coming around and busting open the change machine and helping himself as if he has every right to it. The sheriff’s office has been notified, but, to be quite frank, the number of “village idiots” is quite astounding, and, thus, it is very hard to pinpoint exactly who it is that can’t be an upstanding citizen.
Of course, local business owners share their woes with each other, and that is how my husband learned of the Laundromat’s woes. Since my husband is very alert to his surroundings, he has kept a watchful eye out for anyone hanging around who doesn’t seem to have any real good intentions. There have been a couple of people, and they have been reported to the sheriff’s office, but usually they are long gone before anyone has a chance to field interrogate them.
Since I also work for the sheriff’s office, I am constantly feeding that local zone unit information on suspects in that area. The particular area is known for the number of bars, pubs and nightclubs, and, with such businesses, comes a certain amount of crime, particularly at night time. The Laundromat is closed around 11:00 p.m. and the burglaries seem to take place around 10:00 p.m.
Perhaps if the Laundromat owner were to install some simple security measures, this low-life could be caught and given three hot’s and a cot down at the local bed and breakfast with bars. Such simple security measures such as those sold on the Home Automation Store website would give that business owner the upper hand in this case.
With the X10 Powerflash Interface (x10.com), the owner could have it wired up so that the jet propulsion fan that is placed right beside the coin changer box would fire up as soon as the thief opened the box. Now wouldn’t that blow him away! Have that X10 Home Security Power Horn hooked up and not only would he be blown away, but deaf too.
Of course, no one wants to miss out on this comedian and his stunts, so you’d have to purchase the X10 Surveillance cameras. And if by chance this fool should get away, the sheriff will want a video to identify and convict the suspect on charges of burglary and/or grand theft.
Such a small investment could reap huge benefits. Not only will the profits be saved but a good chuckle would be given to those who had once been victimized with no recourse.
