Consigning with Penny Pincher Boutique: The What When, How & More

The first step in building an intentional wardrobe is, undoubtedly, the purge. As we’ve discussed in previous posts, this step can help you weed out clothing items that really don’t currently serve your needs, thus reducing the amount of stress you have in your everyday life. But how does that connect with consigning clothing with Penny Pincher Boutique? And how do you go about that process? We’re happy to de-mystify these issues for you and to help get you started on your purging and consigning journey!

What

We really don’t want to have to disappoint you when you come in for your consignment appointment, so we’ll be up front from the start: we accept only items made by a select group of high-fashion manufacturers. Each piece must be authentic and in premium, ready-to-sell condition, as well. Even the most lovely piece will be rejected if it has obvious signs of wear — such as holes, snags, or stains — or has not been freshly laundered and pressed.

While women’s clothing makes up the vast majority of our inventory, we also accept women’s accessories, shoes, handbags, and jewelry, along with men’s small leather items and accessories. A limited number of home decor items may also be accepted. However, we do not accept any children’s clothing, menswear, vintage items, or wedding or bridesmaid dresses.

When

The issue of when includes two aspects: when we accept certain items, and when we meet with our consignors. Relating to the former issue, we accept pieces only in the month or two previous to when we foresee those items having the greatest demand from our customers. As a result, here’s a general guideline:

  • Cruisewear in January
  • Spring pieces from February through April
  • Summer pieces from August through October
  • Fall pieces from August through November
  • Winter and Holiday Party pieces in November and December

Fore more details, you can take a look at our website or call us at (914) 241-2134 to ask specific questions. As far as when you can come in for a consignment appointment, we keep time slots available for that purpose every day except Thursday and Sunday.

How

By making a consignment appointment, you will ensure that you’ll receive the prompt, undivided attention of one of our well-trained consignment professionals. Simply call or e-mail us to make an appointment. (If you do have a larger furniture piece you wish for us to consider, we’re happy to take a look at a photo first, for your convenience. Simply shoot us an e-mail with a photo attached.) When you come in, be sure clothing items are hanging on hangers. If we do accept any items you bring in, we will do so on a consignment basis, wherein we commit to giving you a portion of the profits that we make on the future sale of those items. (The only items we purchase outright, rather than on consignment, are classic handbags made by Chanel and Hermes.)
