For people, multi-tasking can actually be counter-productive: Basically, when we attempt to accomplish more than one task at a time, we’re not truly focusing well on anything. However, when it comes to quality furniture, multi-tasking pieces can save you space and money, without sacrificing anything.
Shelving can be a simple way to add storage and display space to your child’s bedroom. However, the added floor space and expense for a free-standing bookshelf might not make sense for you, and you’re not willing to commit to the big holes and safety risks that can come with installing wall-mounted shelves. The perfect solution is a hutch. Both dressers and desks can come with hutches, which serve the dual purpose of providing visual height and added storage space.
Some of our favorite hutches include these:
Gabriella Vanity Desk and Hutch
This feminine piece includes both cabinet doors and open shelving. Its scrolling design reflects the vintage elegance of the Gabriella line from Smartstuff™ by Universal, and despite its name, is perfectly poised to help your daughter either get dolled up or hit the books.
The desk includes a file drawer, two side box drawers, a pencil tray, and a central drawer with a flip-down front perfect for storing a keyboard or laptop. Behind each of the cabinet doors of the hutch, you’ll find an adjustable shelf, and beneath it, you’ll find a 3-way dimmer torchlight to illuminate the task at hand. The cork back provides a space for her to post reminders or memories and offers easy access to cords.
Black or White Student Desk and Hutch from Smartstuff™ by Universal
Another masterpiece from Smartstuff™ by Universal, the Black or White Student Desk is perfect for left or right-handed students, with a two-drawer pedestal that fits beneath the desk under the right or left side. The pull-out keyboard tray spans the entire width of the desk, allowing enough room for you to help quiz your future chemist for her upcoming test or collaborate with your master storyteller on his newest story.
A charging station is conveniently positioned right on the desktop, and the hutch includes a cork board, a 3-way touch light with dimmer, and removable vertical dividers on the top shelf. We love that the top shelf is open on top, providing enough space for 3-ring binders, larger text books, or taller sculptures.
As part of the Black and White Collection, this piece comes in your choice of either black or white.
Contemporary Desk and Hutch
In your choice of Honey, White, or Espresso finish, the Contemporary Desk and Hutch features premium workmanship, as seen in elements like the 4-corner English dovetailed self-closing drawers with built-in stops and under-mounted drawer glides.
The fold-down pencil drawer can be used for a keyboard or laptop, and the smooth look of the drawer fronts lends toward a modern look. The Hutch includes two adjustable shelves as well as a lower section with cork backing.
We carry several other desks with hutches, including this one from our ever-popular Maxtrix® Furniture System.
