Whether you lack the space for an added piece, such as a nightstand or free-standing bookcase, or you simply need extra storage, a Bookcase Bed might just be the piece you need to complete your child’s bedroom. The Bedroom Source carries several options for you, and we’re proud to showcase a few of our favorites. (See Part 1 for three other bookcase beds).

The Rockport Captains Bed with Bookcase Headboard

Another piece on display in The Bedroom Source’s Long Island showroom, the Rockport Captain’s Bed incorporates two extra-large drawers with 4-corner English Dovetail construction. The drawers are finished both inside and out and can face either the left or the right, but this must be determined before your order is placed.

The solid platform is designed to be used with a mattress only. It is made right here in the U.S. with solid Birch and veneers and can be made with or without wainscotting. With a variety of non-toxic, water-based finishes ranging from painted to distressed options, this bed is also available in four sizes: Twin, Extra-Long Twin, Full, and Queen. (Under-bed drawers can be placed on both sides for Full or Queen beds.) The headboard measures 46 inches high for any size bed. The Twin beds both measure 47.5 inches wide; the standard Twin is 87.5 inches long, whereas the Extra Long is 93 inches long. The Full bed is 63.5 inches wide and 87.5 inches long, and the Queen bed is 69.5 inches wide and 93.5 inches long.

The Mica Mini Loft

One of our best-selling beds for over a decade, the Mini Loft provides space savings without safety risks that higher loft beds may pose, making them ideal for taking your child from the preschool years into his or her teens. The Mica Mini Loft is another example you can see in person here at The Bedroom Source, but we’ll give you a little preview. The storage includes 6 drawers (on one side) and 3 drawers and a cabinet (at the foot of the bed). The low platform sides offer a more mature appearance, and the Guard Rail is removable.

The Basic Mini Loft can become a Bookcase Bed by adding the Headboard and Flanking bookcase, which you can do at any time, since it is not required for proper assembly. The Flanking bookcase comes in a variety of widths, depths, and heights, including the one on display, which measures 24 inches wide by 11 inches deep and 54 inches high. Other additional options include a 20-inch Double Step or 10-inch Single Step. This bed comes in your choice of Twin, Twin Extra Long, Full, or Queen. The Twin beds measure 42 inches wide; the standard Twin is 77 inches long, and the Extra Long is 82 inches long. The Full bed measures 57 inches wide by 77 inches long, and the Queen is 62 inches wide by 82 inches long. All measure 33 inches high. You also get to choose from dozens of wood grain, solid, and patterned finishes.
